About Us
The Great Society Fund supports LBJ student and alumni ventures that promote lasting improvements to our neighborhoods, nations, and world. GSF was created by LBJ students in the spring of 2005, and is overseen by a Board of Directors comprised of current LBJ students, alumni, faculty, and friends of the LBJ School.
The Board believes that LBJ students and alumni have the skills and drive to become social entrepreneurs. The Board also believes that it is the responsibility of the LBJ community to assist fellow students and alumni in their efforts to change the world, which means that our fundraising is done within the LBJ community. Great Society Fund grants are available to current and former LBJ School students who are leading or seeking to lead a non-profit start-up initiatives and new programs focused on social change.
Grant applicants apply sometime in the spring, the board votes on the best candidate and the grant is awarded. There is no set grant amount, but thus far we have given out two grants of $10,000. The board is supported by the GSF student group that is responsible for the enthusiasm, ideas and generosity that keep the Fund available for the LBJ community.
